Deep garnet in color, this wine bursts with aromas of sweetened cranberry, cassis, toasted marshmallow, charred dill and roasted red pepper. The aroma is smoky, complex and inviting. On the palate are notes of tart raspberry, spring cherry, and crunchy plum, leading to toffee and fresh roasted Arabica coffee beans, followed by dill, sage and lime zest. The finish is smooth with hints of smoke, cocoa and unsweetened dried coconut.
The vineyards we incorporate in this blend continue to reach to new corners of California with each vintage, adding complexity to the wine. The Lodi fruit contributes plum and cassis characteristics, and round, supple tannins. The Clarksburg fruit adds cold climate nuances in the form of powerful tannins, zesty lime and tart raspberry notes. A significant new component of the blend is Merlot from Mendocino, showing bright acidity, savory herbs and brilliant cherry. The Ruby Cab and Rubired from Lodi add beautiful color in the glass and depth to the mid palate. Lodi Zinfandel helps balance the tannins and adds brambly fruit and complexity. Finally, the Clarksburg Petite Sirah makes its way into the mix for color and depth.
With bright acidity and savory notes, this is a food pairing wine. It pairs well with Gnocchi Bolognese and a side of broccoli rabe, smoked chicken over a kale salad with dried cranberries, toasted walnuts and tangerine vinaigrette or seared beef and asparagus tips in an oyster sauce over jasmine rice.
